Writing Worries

So I know my readers like to write. So I've decided to help you as authors by writing this advise column to help people to become better writers. If you have a question about writing or need an idea to spruce up your stories, email me at readwritelivenikki@gmail.com and I will feature your question and the answer. I will try to get to your question the day of your asking. If you do not wish for your question to be public, just put PERSONAL at the end of the email, and I will email you back with my response. In the subject of your email, write Writing Worries, and I will make it my top priority to deal with.
Happy Writing!

Suggestions

I know I have a lot of things on this blog, but I really want to feature stuff that my readers write. If you have any poetry, stories, or experiences you want to share, I want to encourage you to email them to me. Remember, my email is readwritelivenikki@gmail.com
Also, I would appreciate suggestions for new segments. Just to get your creative juices flowing, here is some original poetry by yours truly. It is about Tucson, the city I'm staying in.

Night
Under the bright stars
Looking at the vast landscape
I breath in night air
Everything is still
City lights shine far away
Night in the desert

Books vs. Movies

This new segment, by request of a fan, is about comparing books, and their movies.
My first book is Holes, by Lois Sachar.
The book and the movie are very similar, so I can't say I liked the movie better. The differences, besides dialogue, are either minuscule, or I haven't found them. If you've never read Holes, here is a short synopsis.

Holes
Stanley Yelnats is cursed. Or, according to his family, their poor family's bad luck is because of an old curse. His father, an inventor, tries many ideas and often fails. His next big idea is to find a way to recycle shoes. One day Stanley is hit on the head by a pair of sneakers, and run to give them to his dad. But it turns out the shoes were the old shoes of the basketball sensation Clyde Livingston. Stanley is sentenced to a year at Camp Green Lake, a juvenile delinquent camp. At the camp, he makes friends with Zero, an orphan. But Camp Green Lake is not normal. The camp leader makes the kids dig holes all day for who knows what, and barely ever finds anything. Through the mysterious Camp Green Lake, Zero, and a whole lot of onions, Stanley Yelnats finds more then just redemption.

I DOEn't Get It 1.3

We hurtle down into an unknown planet.
"WHERE'S AN EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN YOU NEED ONE???" screamed Jake. Suddenly the whole ship rammed into something. We all scrambled out of the ship to examine the damage. Right as my foot hit the ground, it dropped 50 degrees. Everyone put on a coat as we analyzed the crash.
"That's odd... It landed on something soft enough that left no permanent damage." Jake muttered. He was right! Right at the place of the crash was a giant white blob. It kind of looked like something you'd see on the explore channel. I tasted it gingerly. It was sweet. It tasted vaguely familiar.
"Marshmellows!" I exclaimed. Our ship had landed on the worlds biggest marshmallow. We all tasted it and agreed.
I looked on the ground. It was so cold because we were standing on ice cream.
"No way..." gaped Dophern. Then we all started pigging out on the ground.
"This is so sweet!" giggled Dophanie. Before anyone could respond, the ground opened up and swallowed Dophanie.

My Vacation P2

Hi! My vacation is going awesomely! On the Fourth of July my grandparents came over and we watched fireworks. My sis and I watched The Spy Next Door, courtesy of BlockBuster. Even though this is a blog about reading, this bookworm still likes to watch movies. It was funny, and a good family movie. I usually like to read the book before I see the movie, even though it usually gives away the end. Though if you've ever read The Princess Bride (It's better than it sounds!), the ending is very different (Inconceivable!). Sorry, had to say it. Anyway, I've also read good books like House on the Gulf, by Margaret Haddix. Right now, I'm watching Iron Chef America. I love cooking, if you didn't know that. I'll do another update later!

Creativity!

Creative ideas are so fun, I just had to do it again. This creativity is about story ideas. Don't worry, I'm not going to steal your story idea and make it into a million dollar book (unless it's REALLY good). Just kidding. Anyway, try to make your ideas as zany as possible, but something that could really support an story. Put it in comments, and then all of us could be inspired, or have a laugh! Here I one of mine.

A story about a girl who finds a magic genie while in Persia (are genies Persian?), but the genie has a catch.

Make your idea formatted like that- have a good idea going, but don't be afraid to have a blank. If you do that, everybody else should try to comment and improve the story.

That's what I'm going to call this. Since I don't do it weekly, this is the best name.
